The basic organic forms in the Smoke Signal series are constructed from industrial air conditioning units, large blocks with tubes of half-inch copper running through thin "fins" of aluminum. I slice the material diagonally into strips that I bent and re-shaped. During the process these materials take on expressive qualities in themselves, and the feeling of mass and weight is offset by the lightness and energy of the final forms.
