Rigid Wave explores the expressive possibilities of industrial materials. It is composed of thousands of fins of thin aluminum held together by copper tubes, like the gills of some post-industrial breathing apparatus. I imagine the piece to be taking on air. I was first drawn to this industrial material for its basic qualities: toughness, rawness and sense of mass, and at the same time I found the surface was sensitive to mark-making. |
